Genesis 1:26-27
26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 2:7
7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. of the dust...: Heb. dust of the ground
What is man? The Bible answers with astonishing dignity. We are not accidents of dust, but creatures made in the image and likeness of God — male and female, given dominion over His works. He formed us of the ground and breathed into us the breath of life, so that we became living souls. He has crowned us with glory and honour, and knit us together in the womb. The Fall has marred that image, but not erased it; and in Christ it is renewed. To know who you are, you must know whose image you bear.
